Jumper’s knee is an overuse injury of the patellar tendon causing front knee pain in athletes. Physiotherapy restores strength, reduces pain, and supports safe return to sport.
Physiotherapy for Jumper’s Knee focusing on patellar tendon rehabilitation, pain reduction, and strength recovery.

Jumper’s knee, or patellar tendinopathy, is an overuse injury of the tendon connecting the kneecap (patella) to the shinbone. It commonly affects athletes in sports involving frequent jumping, sprinting, or rapid direction changes. The condition develops from repetitive stress, leading to micro-tears, pain, and stiffness in the front of the knee. Without treatment, it can progress and limit performance. Physiotherapy focuses on load management, strengthening, and functional recovery.

Causes of Jumper’s Knee:

  • Repetitive jumping or sprinting activities
  • Sudden increase in training load or intensity
  • Muscle imbalance or poor lower limb biomechanics
  • Tight quadriceps or hamstrings
  • Hard playing surfaces or inadequate footwear
  • Previous knee injuries

Symptoms of Jumper’s Knee:

  • Pain and tenderness just below the kneecap
  • Stiffness and discomfort during activity
  • Pain when jumping, running, or climbing stairs
